Re: Welcome to DaniWeb! I'm personally a pretty entry-level programmer, with my focus being in networking and web-design (not a stellar web designer either, but I get by well enough), but we'll do our best to offer help anywhere we can. But don't forget the sister-site programmingforums.org, the software development section …
Re: Are you just looking to search, or are you looking for something that will actually generate a text list of the files?
Re: The drive has either failed or been disconnected. It's one of three things; 1. Your hard drive controller has failed. 2. Your Hard drive has failed. 3. The connection between your drive and motherboard is bad. If it's 1, you're pretty much out of luck. If it's 2, you'd need …
Re: Check your DHCP settings, if DHCP server is enabled on IPcop as well as your win2003 server, it could be competing.
Re: +1 to Jbennet Sounds like there's something wrong with the partition on the drive.
Re: The problem isn't your computer, it's the routers set-up. It has an excelent signal to the local network, but the network is not connecting to the internet. Restart your router, then your modem, then your router again. That should connect you to the internet.
Re: It can be done, if you know who created it have them disable the feature and send a new copy. It's not something you're likely to click by accident so they'll know how to change it. If that's an option use the "print screen" option or use a program to …
Re: I'm a little confused here, were you unable to receive emails sent to your gmail account, or sent from your gmail account?
Re: Let me guess, you just had a wiki entry removed? Listen, the reason it's legal is BECAUSE of freedom of speech. When you own a website you can display information as you see fit. When it comes down to it, if two parties have a dispute over what should be …
Re: Dell is decent about warranty, especially on more expensive laptops. This early on if it's exhibiting ANY problems you should make full use of the warranty. There's no point in trying to mickey-mouse a laptop that's still under a good warranty.
Re: Windows firewall is designed to work in unison with third party security. You can turn it on while another is active and it wont tell you you're at risk when you disable it because it recognizes the other program. As for getting rid of zonealarm: 1. Download the [URL="but there …
Re: Networking, The job posting isn't clear enough to be able to brush up on a specific server-side subject but, knowing how servers communicate with each other is always valuable. Brushing up on Unix/Linux is also good, they're becoming more popular and it's a good generalized skill.
Re: Since you have a single 512 stick you would probably be best off buying a 1GB and putting it in the second slot. In XP you really wont notice the difference between 1.5 and 2Gb. And +1 to caper, DDR-400 PC-3200.
Re: Your best bet is just to compose an email and send it to a mailing list of relevant people. some forum apps might have a built in feature like this, but if you're looking for an "across the board" answer just send out a tasteful email detailing what your forum …
Re: I've had something kind of like this happen to me before. When it doesn't shutdown/restart all the way. Try shutting down, letting it completely power down, and turning it back on.
Re: I've never heard of anybody recovering data off of a dead flash drive. I'd strip off the case and look at the guts of it, it might just be a broken connector that you could patch to transfer data, if not then you're probably going to lose it.
Re: +1 to JBennet, you'll probably want wireless so you'll need a router (for this simple configuration any one will do) and a wireless adapter for the computer in your bedroom. Buy a router, read the set-up instructions (which tend to be pretty user friendly), and connect the main computer to …
Re: Nobody here can really answer that question for you, we could give you the general directions to get to the email settings, but you have to get the specific information from your shool. They'll have the server names, ports, and other settings you need. If you can access your webmail …
Re: Any video editing software will do #1. Apple has some good paid offerings or you can search tucows.com and sourceforge.net for something like "Mac video editing" #2 is a little more complicated, I would guess it's a matter of temporary files. Any time you're downloading something it has to cache …
Re: I'm not going to guarantee this is right but... I believe many, if not most/all, desktop sound cards take a Mono microphone input and professional mics are stereo. The difference between two and three conductive strips would make it not line up right. Consider going to Radioshack or an audio …
Re: There is a lot of variation on the process of taking laptops apart and they can be very fragile. If you're comfortable with your skill level then take it apart and put the new one in. If you're not I'd suggest going for a USB. There is actually an advantage …
Re: Is it showing any BIOS information on the screen? If it's not and you must have blown the motherboard when you were replacing the ram. This almost never happens with a simple ram-replacement, but I've seen stranger things.
Re: Sounds like a defective card.
Re: I just checked out my modem and the link light flashes. That's normal behavior. If you're sure that the issue is the modem call comcast. They can do diagnostics form their end and tell you the status as well as provide specific trouble shooting for your set-up. If there is …
Re: That sounds to me like a defective modem, contact verizon and they can check your modems logs to see if your modem has been properly connected to their network.
Re: Don't bother using the recovery CDs, just start from scratch. Format the new drive, ghost it again being sure to transfer everything and set it as bootable with the MBR. The problem either came from missing the MBR or confused it when you transfered the hp utility separately.
Re: +1 to Jbennet, if it doesn't work in any computer it has to be an issue with the external itself. Try pulling it from the enclosure and hooking it up internally so you know if the problem is the drive itself or the enclosure. If you're not comfortable with this …
Re: Certifications never hurt and are pretty much always a plus, with that said good interviewing skills are more important. If you're looking to get a job in a large structured education, their HR department will automatically calculate your wage based on experience and education (including relevant certifications). Smaller businesses will …
Re: I'm a lousy web designer, but it doesn't seem like you'd need to do anything special here. Just make it a download and it will give the user that option in a trusted system window. I always get nervous when a webpage tries to mimic something that my system would …
Re: I personally have all flat-panel, although not nearly on the scale of ITdupuis. I have 2x17" lcds on my main PC, a 15" on my "hackintosh", and a 37" HD LCD in my living room, I love them all and wouldn't change any of them back to CRT. But with …
Re: It's not an issue with your computer if it's not recognizing it on somebody elses system. It has to be a problem with the hard drive itself. The only thing I can really suggest is to remove the drive from it's enclosure and connect it to your computer internally. If …
Re: If it's working like that then all the way to the right must be "cable select". I'm a little confused here, are you talking about one system or all of their systems (you used both tenses)? If it's just one system convince them to let you install SP3 on that …
Re: There are any number of ways to do it: 1. Set up your own server at home, you probably have a dynamic IP address so you'll need to use a service like dyndns.org. 2. Get a reseller hosting account with another web host. 3. Get a virtual private server and …
Re: It's probably an interface issue, I'd guess it's a bad cable.
Re: The boot device selection is F12 on my Satellite.
Re: Since you hear it through headphones too (to a lesser degree) it's something wrong with the sound card, either with the jack or the card itself. The reason it's more pronounced on the speakers is because they're powered and will amplify the hum. I'd suggest getting a PCI sound card, …
Re: Most modern systems don't really need the Master/Slave configuration configured properly, just not to have both drives set to the same setting. Your BIOS boot order will override the master/slave boot setting (Dells are an exception, they're picky about this). Windows XP and vista are picky about hardware, 98 or …
Re: open a command prompt and IPCONFIG, see if you have a default gateway and what it is. If you do enter the IP address into a browser window and access the settings of your router. Look around and see if any of the settings would explain what's going on. If …
Re: It sounds to me like you're saying scandisk detected bad sectors and now you can't access some/all of your data. Is that the case?
Re: At what point does your system display the "no signal" message? If you're able to start an OS install it must happen after the bios but before desktop? It sounds like a defective IGP, but it could be another part of your system. Try downloading the Ubuntu live CD distribution …
Re: Weak signal strength causes: Deadspots corrupt packets vulnerability to interference intermittent connectivity lower throughput and on some level added latency, since you are bound to have to resend packets
Re: We need more details. How long has this been going on? Did you recently perform updates or install new software/hardware? What are your system specs (not necessarily relevant to the problem, but it will help us walk you through trouble shooting)? How old is your computer? What Operating system are …
Re: If you have a pre-existing installation and want to create separate partitions using with different letter designations, I'd suggest using a third party "partition manager". It will let you resize, rename, delete, create, whatever you'd like to do, partitions on your hard drive. I use Acronis disk manager, which is …
Re: Usually software/driver issues wont interfere with your ability to boot past the BIOS splash screen, so it may just be a coincidence, sounds unlikely but the BIOS rom can't really be effected by changes in windows. Try resetting your BIOS, either by entering set-up and selecting "return to factory defaults" …
Re: Safemode is pretty sage against registry upgrades, since it would have to be an error in the key for one of the handful of critical processes loaded in safemode. This error message is caused by an error with Winlogon.exe or Csrss.exe. The standard fixes are 1. load "last good configuration" …
Re: "Decent" graphics really depends on what you're doing. integrated Intel graphics is "Decent" for a workstation or media system, where a geforce 8600 or better is decent for gaming (geforce 260/280 or SLI for serious gaming. Tell us what it is you plan to do with the system and a …
Re: You should be able to, just look into setting up a virtual private network. I'd suggest using Logmein Hamachi if you want to go with something simple. It lets you create a virtual network you can access with a password, giving you all the same features you'd have locally. You'll …
Re: If you're upgrading a current system you can use the upgrade, but if you're building from scratch you can buy an OEM copy, they're usually cheaper than Upgrades (I believe) and are great if you know what you're doing. The one downside is that they don't include the same microsoft …
Re: What exactly do you mean? Are you talking about Daniweb? What do you want to know about it? have you read through the about sections?
I had to put a new Motherboard and CPU in a computer after the motherboard burned out. The current installation of XP will boot in safemode (only as far as cursor, no icons) and get past the splash screen before a quick BSOD and restart in standard mode. Big surprise, … |
