This problem occur most of the time when you key in an wrong IP address. Is there any security softwares or firewall blcoking this. If yes change the firewall settings try not to disable it.

If your problem is a motherboard one, you can go and buy a new one and replace it. When you charge your laptop did you hear the fan spin before it suddenly shut down. It may be a overheating issus. Have you consider that?

Try using an external monitor to test it out. Your graphica card may need to be replaced or there is a ribbon cable connecting the display to the motherboard. Reseat the graphic card and chekc whether the cable is loose.
