Try Windows Movie Maker - free. Or VirtualDub - free too.
Check in taks manager to see which application uses too much CPU and unintall it.
You can **XOR** all characters with a value and then save them, you do the same when yo read them in order to reverse the encryption. But that is really WEAK and I do not recommend it for serious stuff. Here is a real solution: http://qt-project.org/wiki/Simple_encryption
