If you can boot to the command prompt or have a cd that can boot to give you xp command prompt. Rename the directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\config and create a new empty directory. That might just buy you your way in. Good luck.

That depends on your server/memory module. I assume you are talking about hot swapable RAM. It is vendor specific. I know that IBM do log on their PSeries servers. As for HP I am not sure.

If you know what BIOS you have, AMI, PHEONIX, AWARD etc.etc. Search for beep codes and that will tell you exactly where your problem lies.

Use MSinfo32.exe to check if you have any hardware conflicts. Perhaps you have an IRQ overlap, I have had that causing similar problems.

Reformatting implies a new fresh install. Thus your user list, desktop settings etc. should no longer exits. You need to go into the control panel and create a new user account for you to be able to have it appear in the startup list.
