cyph, if you ever come back to this site, then my suggestion is to stick to your choice. Tell him that your doing what you love. At the end of the day, your interest and love of physics and IT will help you to progress farther. Just my thoughts.
I've similar problem as this. Only my problem occurs about 4 months after building the PC. It was fine before, then it just starts acting up. Now I start the PC for a few seconds before it shuts down. Anyways, I'm still thinking about the solution.
