you may want to check if you have the blaster virus. Rick
If you doing vpn connections linksys is the way for easy no setup connections.
I'm looking for a way to use a remote administration program (dameware maybe) that will be able to ack like the windows help in XP (meaning it can penitrate though a firewall). Does anyone know of any solution to this?
Not true big max, you can setup two wireless cards to communicate w/o a AP. This is called ad-hoc a believe. and if yous et them up that way they should atleast get an APIPA address, try to ping that then, if not and your using 2k or newer then …
Just woundering why you said you had a 802.11b router when it didn't matter? do you even have ethernet ports on your router?? are you using the wireless to connect?? or the internal ethernet port?
If all you are doing is tranferring between to machines and don't have a hub you are going to need a cross over cable and then staticly assign both machines an ip address (if they are both windows you can just use the APIPA address). Then just map the share.
goto www.whatismyip.com or look in your router for your public IP (WAN IP, Inernet IP....) and make sure that you forward the correct ports to the correct machine as well.
