If you haven't done so already, try disabling your motherboards onboard audio if it has it through the BIOS and through the device manager.
What is the root server folder's properties set to? If it was set to read only for that folder and all folders inside, it might be conflicting, maybe. Try changing that.
Pardon the simple nature of my reply, but have you tried going back to the previous versions and see if they still work, if so, try updating again?
Regarding your network problems, I had the same issue when I updated to AIM 6.5. I had to do a system restore to before I did the update, uninstalled AIM, and found a version of AIM 6.0 online, they're still out there. See how that works.
Basically what i've run into so far with the OEM is that you aren't covered in their 90 day free technical support thing, and charge you $59 per support enquiry. Other than that i've had no trouble with activating.
When you say web, do you mean just through your internet browser, or all network connections altogether? Have you tried pinging an IP or done netstat or ipconfig?
Have you run a chkdsk?
What type of user is she on the system and what are theirs?
