Make sure your data HDD is jumpered to be limited to 150/s as that is what the controller is. If you have a 300/s unjumpered you will have substancial issues.
if you have access to another computer you can make this very easy - put your HDD in another system temporarily and copy the contents of YOUR c:\windows\repair into YOUR c:\windows\system32\config or if you can GET a windows installation disc - boot from the cd at the first setup screen …

Asus Crosshair 250$ USD or You should put it off for up to 2 months if possible when the new AMD's come out. (current boards will also drop in price drastically this summer) this is a very bad time to invest any money in a pc
Ram. Try using only 1 stick to see how far you get and make sure it's timings are correct in the bios.
