Is it worth having a forum that allows the members and guests to talk to each other? Would it have any positive or negative values?

If you have a look in your templates, you will find some <if> and <else> statments from memory (your navbar is your best bet). They hold other values of what user/usergroups see whats.
There is a hack lie that called Cutsom Pages. It can be found found at vbulletin.org (Don't know if this is breaching rules etc - If it is, welcome to remove it) - there are also loads of other hacks.
