If it is an onboard video card, try putting a seperate card in...if the monitor works, then you know it's not your motherboard and it was your video card that was faulty.

MsMpEng.exe is related to Microsoft Security Essentials...I uninstalled it from my machine last night and it worked fine. It could be a conflict with another Antivirus that you may be using.
