Try lowering the screen resolution by going on in Safe Mode. Some older monitors can't handle the larger resolutions.
Not going to make a difference. The X25 is a SATA II drive and will not see any speed increase by plugging it into a SATA III port.

Check the BIOS to be sure the hard drive is not set to some kind of wonky settings. Occasionally it can change to ATAPI which is only for optical drives. Though, that would usually cause a problem when you are trying to copy files in the first place. Another idea …
