If you go to the control panel, then administrative tools, it has some log viewers you can look at. Do you have the latest version of DirectX? Make sure you have 9. If you do, press start, go to run... type dxdiag and press OK. That has stuff you can …

64bit is more of a marketing scheme more than anything. Noobs will be attracted to 64bit machines like magnets because of the easy assumption 2x bits = 2x performance, which won't be the case. Depending when 64bits is pushed, they might come out with WinXP with 64bit capability.

There is a setting that can allow someone to change the user accounts thing in the WinXP control panel back to the one that was in 2k. Anybody know of it?

It is Giant antispyware with Ms's name in it. Lame. If you view the process in task manager, the left it as the same name.

I and a few of my friends all have laptops (with the exception of one, who has a really really old desktop). Our computers work for us, but we require a lot of hard drive space for the mass amount of work/files we accumulate. So, I got a cheep dell …

Worse come to worse you can hire a pro to come in and fix it for you without losing all your files if you have anything important on there. You didn't by any chance set a restore point did you?

When I setup WinXP it forced me to make another account, so I did planning to delete it later. I just want one user, the administrator account and no other users. Unfortunately I cannot delete the other account I made (which is also an administrator), nor can I change it …

You need to ensure that the computer is using the CD to boot. Also, if the CD is messed up, well, you need to find another one.

Very odd that you swiched out of the game one day and the sound went poof. Press start, go to run, type dxdiag and press enter. Go to the sound tab and run tests. See if it generates any errors.

I'd recommend Win2k with that kind of RAM. You definately need to go get some more, at least 256. That is an odd number for RAM.

Try shutting down all programs prior to shutting down windows and see if that makes a difference.

It won't. Right click the file, select properties and on the bottom uncheck "read only". You should also be logged in as an administrator.

I can give you some tips: Get familiar with setting up groups (administrators, users, backup operators, etc.) and their permissions. Also remember that all the admin stuff is not in the admin folder. poledit.msc (search for it) can allow you to tweak many other things, like preventing people from changing …
