Usually when a file is in use and you're using a p2p prog, some one else is trying to d/l it off of you. But yeah, rebooting into safe mode works most of the time when trying to delete a file.

Win2K Pro is the user (client) version of Win2K Server. Win2K Server allows a person to create web, mail, file, and gaming servers. This is NOT recommended as a day-to-day normal OS to diddle around on, unless you're trying to figure out how to run a server. I have no …

We did this at school and I believe you're supposed to install Linux first then install Windows XP. It worked just fine that way.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode then deleting the file? start > run > type "msconfig" > BOOT.INI tab > check the /safeboot box > Apply > restart to boot normally, uncheck that box. if this doesn't work, trying using pocket killbox.

my recycle has the same properties and whatnot as your gateway. there are a few things that don't wind up there and it's never concerned me, b/c when you actually think about it, "Deleting" isn't really removing it, just code to make it appear it's not there.

I hate using the WinXP formatter. What you might try doing is going to your hard drive manufacturer's website. Western Digital has Data Lifeguard Tools and Hitachi has Drive Fitness Test. Both of them have a tool that does a low-level format and writes 0's to the entire hard drive …

My friend had this same issue. Since he could not stay connected to a browser long enough, I had to manually upload him the files via AIM messenger, the same ones listed in my sig. This did resolve his problem.

I don't think Windows (any version) let's you re-install without formatting the current partition you want it on so I think you just might be screwed as far as your data goes. Sorry to hear that.

FAT = File Allocation Table From school here's what I learned...it's not extremely thorough, but it is to the point. FAT16 is old/obsolete. Users can only have make a 516MB disk space, it's extremely vulnerable, and file names can only be something like 8 characters long. FAT32 is an updated …

My friend gets this ONLY when there is an internet connection available. Would this be an incorrect IRQ setting or faulty modem and ethernet NIC problem? Because the BSoD occurs with either of them.
