It's because with the touch pad in the middle of the laptop, it would put strain on your wrists, the same reason they make those new keyboards.

Are you sure you want to Reformat your computer? it should only be done as a last resort, and is often done unnecessarily. What OS are you currently using?
It could be in the Add/Remove programs as something other then Java, such as Sun Microsoft. Have a look for that, if its not there, it could be in All Programs, with an uninstall option.
